It started out as a possible 'lemon', the writing was boring and predictable and the voice impersonal. However, it improved a lot and towards the end, I did not want to put it down. The book was written in the 40's, a lot of it describing British East Africa between the two world wars. One could argue that it has not stood the test of time. The stories of the Game Spotting and of the flight from Nairobi to London are the best, and topped only by the Atlantic crossing itself.
