For Bev Merridew, who can turn a trick as easily as she can roll a joint, life in Venus Holler is tolerable. For her 19-year-old daughter, Jamalee, a life guaranteed to be the replica of her mother's isn't good enough. Också denna Woodrell-bok är bra! Om än inte lika drabbande som de två tidigare jag läst. Denna handlar inte om maskrosbarn, barn/ungdomar som - trots en frånvarande pappa, en hora till mamma, boende i husvagn på fel sida av orten, med en miserabel uppväxt och andra destruktiva omständigheter - klarar sig bra i livet mot alla odds. För det gör de inte.

Osentimentalt och rakt på sak. Språket gillar jag. Texten flyter och allt hemskt händer utan något drama vilket gör att det drabbar hårdare.
