Det här är Norman Mailers överlägset bästa bok. Såvitt jag har förstått skrev han den på plats i kriget, som brev hem. Och när han publicerade en omarbetad version av sina brev, drabbades han av en sådan succé att hans självkritik för alltid gick förlorad. Men varje författare bör ändå vara tacksam för att ens någon gång i livet publicerat något så bra. Landstigningsscenen är ett mästerverkt.
