Episk fantasy/skräck som lyckas med att mitt i det storslagna - världen-och-mänskligheten-och-drömmar-och-verkligheten - vara en småstadsberättelse om människorna som hamnar mitt i handlingen. Vad som också plockar bort ett antal versaler från epiken är att den Onde och den Gode inte riktigt är den Onde och den Gode. Snarare en bitter skurk med för mycket makt och en drömmare som är den ende som kan stoppa honom; och kampen mellan dem är bara början.
Icke desto mindre känns det som att det finns sprickor och glappkontakter mellan författarens episka idéer och hur han ska berätta dem. Ofta känns det som att he's making it up as he goes along. Bra bok, men inte ett mästerverk. ...Och dessutom funkar det bara inte med uråldriga konspirationer efter man har läst Foucaults pendel.
