Ted Chiang faller under ofta under kategorin science fiction, fast de flesta av historierna i denna bok är snarare tankeexperiment av kontrafaktisk typ; t.ex. utspelar sig en historia i en värld där Gud är en realitet och änglar med jämna mellanrum "bryter igenom" till vår värld för att uträtta mirakel (bota blinda, cancrar, etc). Dock är dessa interventioner oftast förknippade med enorma krafturladdningar, då änglarna "bryter igenom" och rör sig i vår värld, så att de oftast dör mer människor (av glassplitter, fallande hus, etc) än botas.
Hursomhaver; de allra flesta berättelser är helt lysande och t.o.m den sämsta är bra. En fantastisk bok. Synd att Chiang inte skriver mycket mycket mer!
