Author Biography: Sister Wendy Beckett is a member of the Notre Dame teaching order of nuns. She studied English literature at St Anne's College, Oxford, and later taught in South Africa. Returning to England in 1970, she became a contemplative nun, and since then has led a disciplined life in which the careful study of art has played a major part. Well known for her successful National Public Television series, Sister Wendy has an international reputation as an art historian. She has gained widespread recognition for her knowledge and insight into paintings. She is also the author of several noted works, including the bestselling Sister Wendy's Story of Painting, Sister Wendy's Book of Saints, Sister Wendy's Book of Meditations, and A Child's Book of Prayer in Art, all published by DK.
