1878. The Lyceum Theatre, London. Three extraordinary people begin their life together. Spökljus är den sista delen i den här trilogin av Joseph O’Connor. De två första delarna, Havets stjärna och Guvernörens hustru, tyckte jag var två fantastiska och mustiga berättelser. De gav mig en vidare och större bild av Irlands historia. Den stora fattigdomen på Irland i mitten på 1800-talet och den stora emigrantvåg som följde i spåren på hungersnöden. Också hur många emigranter tog sig fram i sitt nya hemland Amerika. I Spökljus, tycker jag, att berättelsen inte når upp till samma nivåer som de två föregående böckerna gjorde. Vet inte riktig varför?

En varmt humoristisk och fint vemodig historia, som visserligen inte riktigt innehåller någon tydlig konflikt, men som, likt en tidsresa, låter mig leva bland dessa tre karaktärer i denna teaterns värld under några decennier.
