En rörande och tragikomisk skildring av Eddie/Old Filth från hans födelse i Malaysia cirka år 1918 och till hans död. En psykologisk studie som griper och övertygar. Första delen av romanen är helt mästerlig, jag känner dock en viss besvikelse över att författarinnan inte drog i alla trådar som var möjliga. Hon beskrev aldrig på djupet hans förhållande till hustrun och till ovännen Veneering. Slutet blev lite banalt och ytligt. Synd, men en fyra måste det väl ändå bli. Romanen är tyvärr inte översatt till svenska.
