Mark Twain är en pseudonym för Samuel Langhorn Clemens, född 1835 i Missouri, författare, reporter och tidningsman. Namnet Mark Twain är egentligen en djupangivelse som talade om när det var tillräckligt djupt (två famnar) för båtarna att åka på floden. Clemens, arbetade i unga år som lots på Mississippi. Hans genombrott som författare kom år 1876 med Tom Sawyers äventyr. Huckleberry Finns äventyr kan sägas vara en fortsättning av genombrottsromanen och handlar om en egensinnig pojke som lever med sin alkoholiserade och grymme fader, men föredrar att lösa problem på sitt eget sätt och slingra sig ur samhällets uppfostringsförsök. Så småningom ger sig Huck sig iväg på en vansklig färd tillsammans med sin vän Jim, en förrymd svart slav, längs Mississippi-floden mot Jims frihet i nordstaterna där slaveriet var förbjudet. Mark Twains språk är helt underbart. Jag fnissar periodvis åt hur författaren väljer att leka med språket. Ett lekfullt och vackert språk är något helt speciellt.
Andra gånger fnissar jag åt Tom Sawyers, Huckleberry Finns och Jims påhitt. Huckleberry Finn är en riktigt humoristisk bok trots att boken ger en ordentlig känga till dåvarande sydstater som hade ett starkt etablerat slav- och klassamhället.
Vissa böcker tröttnar man aldrig på och denna bok är en sådan och det är väl en av anledningarna till att den har blivit en riktigt klassiker.

'Huckleberry Finn' är en fortsättning på 'Tom Sawyer' men saknar det djup och den tidlöshet som fanns hos karaktärerna från början. Historien, som redan kändes för lång i 'Tom Sawyer' verkade aldrig ta slut och de humoristiska inslagen vägde tyvärr inte upp det faktum att boken kändes väldigt seg.
