Jag skulle givit den här boken ännu bättre betyg om den hade varit kortare och mer koncentrerad. Den följer en ung engelsman från våren 1848 till våren 1949. På det året hinner han vara med om en uppflammamde revolutionsunge i Paris, en jakt genom London och en flytt till USA. Kärlek i New York och en resa genom hela landet via Mexikanska gulfen och Panama för att sedan ta en båt upp till San Francisco (puh!) Guldvaskning förekommer på slutet. Mycket intressant och underhållande, men för mycket faktiskt. Jag är i alla fall glad att jag läst den - absolut ingen waste of time.
