The Beatles are quite simply the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed band in the history of popular music. In the United Kingdom, they released more than 40 singles, albums and EPs that reached number 1, notching up more number-one albums than any other group in UK chart history. This commercial success was repeated in many other countries and by 1985 they had sold over one billion records worldwide.
