This lecture addresses the growth of a field of practice, scholarship and research that can broadly be called research education . It draws on practical examples and research studies to explore both how people are inducted into becoming researchers, and how the process of doing research can have personal, professional and institutional impact. This exploration is extended to propose that education, as an academic field, can and should engage productively with, and help us understand, the process and practice of doing research and, through this, the production, reproduction and dissemination of knowledge.
