Pierre Ambroise Fran ois Choderlos de Laclos was born in Amiens October 18, 1741 and died in Taranto September 5, 1803, is a French soldier and writer. Biography He traveled in Europe, particularly in Venice, where Byron entrusted his diary. Between 1820 and 1822 he was welcomed in S vres near Paris by the family of Martin de Villamil. He is particularly known for his poems such as The Minstrel Boy (In) or the last rose of summer (in) which, set to music by John Stevenson (in), are popular and were often repeated.
