Grymhet och skönhet hand i hand. Jag är svag för berättelser om enkla men hårda liv i överlevarstuk, såväl med vandringar som bondliv, och den här hade kombinationen av båda delar. Jag kände mig berörd och det var mycket vacker natur och kärleksbeskrivningar. Det jag hade svårast för med boken var mängden av likgiltigt djurplågeri som förekom.
