Fascinerande berättelse om Xu Sanguan och hans familjs hårda livsöde i Kina. Som läsare bjuds du in i rollen som betraktare och det är helt och hållet genom karaktärernas handlingar som man får följa med i förloppet. Det är något befriande och överraskande att läsa böcker helt utan färdigskrivna värderingar och moraliska pekpinnar. Som utomstående läsare är jag fri att känna och tycka vad jag vill och ingen personlighet utmålas som fulländat ond eller god. En väl läsvärd bok som jag lämnar med saknad.
