Lauren had a turbulent childhood and adolescence: her parents' marriage break-up, sexual abuse as a child in Australia, her mother's drug addiction and suicide, her own rebellious adolescence, running away, stowing away, and being raped by three men. After working as a stripper and in prostitution, her depression, suicide attempts and drug use, she returned to high school as an adult student and eventually undertook medical studies and qualified as a GP, afterwards working in an A & E Dept. Currently she is employed part time in Sexual Health and at a family planning clinic. She regularly gives lectures in prisons and to voluntary organisations.
