A Cinema without Walls

Drawing on a wide variety of American and European films and on many theoretical models, Timothy Corrigan investigates what he calls a "cinema of excess", taking a close look at such films as "Blue Velvet", "My Beautiful Launderette", "The King of Comedy" and "Paris, Texas", in order to see how we read film differently in the post-modern world. He looks at cult audiences, narrative structure, genre films (road movies, in particular), and contemporary politics as they engage new models of film-making and viewing.
